Curriculum Structure and Goals:
The goal of this course is to impact and teach the participants how to live a spiritually mature, integrated, Orthodox Christian life. The program will be very special and, therefore, will require a full commitment and significant effort on the part of the participant.
The program will focus on discipleship, study/instruction, allow some hands-on training and enable the students to begin building a collection of important books of their own.
There will also be a regular system of examinations and participation to ensure continued attention to spiritual growth, study, and teamwork. Factors that will determine successful completion of the course will include the following:
I. Attention to individual spiritual growth and maturity
This is the most important role of the participant. Along with the encouragement and instruction from the course, every participant is expected to do their part by working on their personal relationship with the Holy Trinity.
II. Attendance and participation in weekly class meetings
The class will meet weekly on Wednesday nights from 7:30pm-9:00pm, September 20, 2017 and end on May 23, 2018, in the social lounge in the basement of the main church. All participants are expected to show up on time and attend all classes in person. If you need to miss a class (only for unexpected or unusual circumstances) you must tell the coordinator before hand and make up the class by listening to the lecture online and submitting a summary and completing whatever homework is required for that week. If the summary is not submitted by the following Monday it is considered an unexcused absence.
III. Attendance and participation on weekend sessions
There may potentially be 2-3 Saturday sessions/workshops per semester. Participants are expected to attend these events.
IV. Completion of regular homework and reading assignments
All homework and reading assignments are expected to be completed on time. Consistent and complete participation is required to continue taking the course.
V. Satisfactory grades on exams and quizzes
Every participant is expected to study, learn and do their best on all exams. The spirit and effort is the most important part.
God willing, the class will begin on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 and end on May 23, 2018.
To allow for more fellowship and a more intimate class atmosphere, the class will be capped at 30 participants so applications must be submitted by Friday, September 15, 2017.
The full one-year program will include the following broad topic categories:
· Orthodox Spirituality
· The Holy Bible
· Intro to Patristics
· Liturgical subjects
· Church history
